Stone Falls is the first Specimen Trout Fishery in Ireland and the only one providing wheelbarrows to transport the catch!

Rod numbers are limited to 5 rods per day giving the angler peace, space and tranquillity to stalk the fish of a lifetime. Larger groups can be catered for and we welcome Team Building days, Corporate events, or even those wanting somewhere different to celebrate a special occasion!

The fishery which consists of 2 spring fed lakes is man made. It is supplied by a fast flowing stream from Altikeeragh mountain giving excellent water quality and tremendous invertebrate life.

The Specimen Lake is stocked with Rainbow trout at a minimum weight of 5lbs up to high doubles; the lower lake has been specifically designed for coaching and tuition purposes and has a stock of quality Rainbows from 1.5lbs again up to high doubles. All fish are fin perfect and are individually picked and are transported in limited numbers to reduce stress.

The banks and grounds of Stone Falls have been designed to promote as much insect and invertebrate life as possible to enable the angler to match the hatch.

Located on Altikeeragh mountain Stone Falls has stunning views of Downhill ruins and Musseden Temple and further to the North, Islay in Scotland. Looking East on a clear day beyond the Giants Causeway the Mull of Kintyre comes into view.

Magilligan to Greencastle ferry is approximately 15mins drive from the fishery via Downhill and the Seacoast Rd.

The Proprietors

Leslie and Sue Holmes have developed Stone Falls with the help of brother and sister in law William & Stephanie Holmes of Moorbrook Lodge Trout Fishery located approximately 1.5 miles around the corner on Glebe Rd.

It has been an ongoing project for the past 6 years, from building a house on site; to getting appropriate consent from all the relevant bodies from planning to building control; to excavating the lake and completely renovating the derelict cottage.

Leslie has been fishing since he was 4 years old in river, sea and lake, he is a qualified game angling instructor, holding Level 2 certificate in Coaching angling, and recently attained his Advanced Professional Game Angling Instructors qualification (APGAI- Trout). He also holds Level 3 Certificate in Guiding. He is a member of the National Angling Guides Association (which makes him a N.A.G) and covers him to be fully insured as a guide, he is also a member of the Trout and Salmon Association and the Professional Angling Association, which fully insures him and his clients in a coaching capacity.

Holding the above qualifications required Leslie to have passed first aid training, Child Protection Awareness and Risk Assessment in relation to health and safety matters He is also a retired member of the R.N.L.I having been attached to Portrush Station.
